Storms
Hi my name is Kendall and I am 15. I have an 8 year old brother named David. I have a dad named Bill who works at the airport and a mum named Rachel who works in a museum. I live in Blackwood, in Australia.
It was a good day today. The 25th of April, 2030. It was the first good day in a long time. My brother and I were shooting some goals in the backyard with my dog Archey, a golden retriever laying next to us playing with his toy. I went inside to get a drink when I heard a noise in the living room. My curiosity took me to the living room when I saw the tv was left on.
I went to turn it off when the news came on.
“Weather scientists today confirmed that there is a major storm heading to Australia. It is bigger than all the previous storms.” This storm already hit China and the Philippines and now it’s aiming to hit Australia,” the news reporter announced. I ran upstairs and knocked on my mum and dad’s door as quickly as I could. I walked in seeing them still sleeping so I went to my mum and woke her up because my dad would get angry. My mum woke up and yawned while asking,
“What’s the matter?” I responded in a rushing tone.
“There was another warning signal. They said there’s a huge storm coming towards Australia”.
I ran down stairs and outside to get some important belongings and pack them in a bag while my parents were getting up and packing their belongings. David asked, “What are you doing?”
I told him, “We have to leave because a huge storm is coming to Australia and we need to get out of here.” We all jumped in the car when I realised I totally forgot about Archey. I opened the car door and ran inside. I went into the cupboard grabbed some of his food and shoved it into the bag. I opened the back door and grabbed the leash that was on the ground and clicked it on Archy’s collar. We both ran out of the house and jumped into the car and drove off. I just couldn’t believe that I nearly forgot Archey.
1 hour later
We drove past Lansdale High School and saw people hiding in classes. We looked out the window and saw dark clouds appearing and a twister following the clouds everywhere. We were a little lucky because we’re on a hill and twisters only appear on a flat surface, We still sped up just in case because this storm is like no other.
We were driving near the hill when we heard water rushing as fast as the wind so we knew something bad was going to happen. I looked through my window when I saw a huge wave coming towards me. It has turned into a tsunami. All of a sudden we got hit by the water and we started spinning around and crashing into things. I blacked out.
Chapter 2
I could finally start to hear the wind whistling and see the dark clouds nearly covering the whole sun. When I woke up everyone was still in the car seats, held in by the car’s seatbelts. I checked up on my parents and my brother and they seemed to be okay but the car wasn’t. The car was all smashed and was floating amongst hundreds of objects. I grabbed as many bags as I could from the car and put them next to my parents and tried to wake them up. I then grabbed Archey and sat him down on a floating object.
Dad woke up first, then my mum, then my little brother. We grabbed the bags and swam out of the water to land. We all were exhausted and too tired to walk but we had to get to the airport to move somewhere safer for the mean time.
We’ve been walking for hours when we came across an abandoned petrol station. No owners appeared to be around and the door was left open. We felt guilty but left there with some water bottles, packets of chips, treats for Archy and Anzac biscuits. We forgot today was Anzac Day so we had a minute of silence to thank the soldiers who had fought in war for our country. We finally arrived at the airport and it was completely full. We waited in line but it moved really slowly so we started getting worried because the storm was getting closer. My dad and brother walked around looking for a quicker way to get on a plane, but without luck. The line moved and we were finally at the front. A tall man said in a deep voice,
“Sorry the plane is full. You will have to wait till the next flight comes.” Kendall’s dad then asked
“When is the next plane?”
The man answered, “ Five hours.” Dad was visibly upset and didn’t know what to do.
Chapter 3
My family was having a discussion about what to do next and how we’re going to get on the plane. We were waiting around for a while when a family walked off the plane. Dad had an idea. We sneakily walked on the plane taking their spot. The plane was leaving while we were watching the storm take over Australia. We regretted taking their spot but we wanted to be safe.
